Help Us Grow the Junior Shooting Sports Program in the Phenomenal 5th District

The Phenomenal 5th District of The American Legion is seeking a dedicated volunteer to serve as our Junior Shooting Sports Program (JSSP) Representative and help expand youth opportunities throughout our District.

What Is the Junior Shooting Sports Program?

The American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program is a youth program centered on firearm safety, marksmanship, discipline, responsibility, and sportsmanship through .177-caliber air rifle competition.

Beyond learning marksmanship skills, the program encourages young participants to develop focus, confidence, self-discipline, respect for safety procedures, and good sportsmanship.

We Are Looking for the Right Representative

The 5th District is seeking someone who has an interest in shooting sports and a desire to help connect young people with positive, structured opportunities.

Potential candidates may:

• Belong to or have connections with a shooting range or shooting club

• Have experience with marksmanship or firearms safety

• Have relationships with schools or JROTC programs

• Be connected with Scout organizations or other youth-serving groups

• Have experience working with youth programs or community organizations

• Be willing to develop partnerships with qualified ranges, clubs, instructors, Posts, and youth organizations

You do not have to be a competitive shooter to serve in this role. What matters most is a willingness to learn about the Junior Shooting Sports Program, promote it throughout the District, and help build relationships that can create opportunities for eligible young people.

The selected representative will also be required to successfully complete a background check.

The American Legion has a long history of investing in America's youth. Programs such as JSSP provide young people with structured opportunities to develop responsibility, discipline, leadership, and sportsmanship while learning the importance of safe practices.

Our goal is to strengthen awareness of JSSP throughout the Phenomenal 5th District and help more American Legion Posts connect with qualified organizations and eligible youth participants.

We are asking American Legion members, veterans, families, community partners, JROTC leaders, educators, shooting sports organizations, and youth advocates to help us identify someone who may be a good fit for this important role.
